Sirene Egeenne Founder Anna Papoulia on Sustainable Fashion: Our Beyond50 Interview

Why should sustainability mean compromising on style? For Anna Papoulia, founder of Sirene Egeenne, that question shaped the sustainable, Aegean-inspired fashion brand from day one. This month, Beyond50 sat down with her to talk sustainable design, Greek heritage, and eco-conscious fashion — and the resulting interview is one we're proud to share.

The Problem With "Sustainable" Fashion

The frustration was a familiar one for anyone shopping eco-friendly fashion: organic cottons, recycled fibres, all the right materials — and yet the finished garments so often fell flat, as though ethics and elegance couldn't coexist. Sirene Egeenne was founded to prove they can, offering sustainable clothing designed in Greece without sacrificing craftsmanship or style.

Why the Aegean Sea Inspired the Brand

What gives the interview its particular resonance is the way Anna locates the brand geographically before she locates it aesthetically. The Aegean, she explains, is simply "the place". Τhe sea connecting Thessaloniki to Crete, carrying the same light and continuity along Greece's coastline. It's this connection to the Aegean Sea that inspired the brand name itself: the siren, mythology's original seductress of the water, reimagined here not as a warning but as an emblem of transparent production, sustainable materials, and craftsmanship that refuses to cut corners.
